Full of references to sumptuous food, clothing and decor, and to 'perverse pleasures', this story harks back to J.K.Huysmans Against Nature and the works of the Marquis de Sade, and proves that much of contemporary trangressive literature has its roots in a genre that effortlessly out-trangresses all but the most extreme examples of its modern counterpart. Not for the faint-hearted or the political correct.
1951-2 was a time of sheer and total happiness for me. But I felt it to be so brittle that I decided to exorcise its fragility by writing a tale. This was to be the last word in eroticism and sadism... like a kiss of peace bestowed on the principle of Evil.
While this is a distracting book, I would not like anyone to stumble upon the final passages unprepared.
