Alexander Pushkin

Alexander Pushkin(1799-1837) is regarded as Russia's greatest poet. From an aristocratic family he was dismissed from government service for his revolutionary epigrams. In 1832 he married Natalia Goncharova, a great beauty, but rumours of an affair with Baron Georges D'Anthes led to a duel in which Pushkin was fatally wounded. Despite his untimely death he produced a large amount of verse and narrative poetry, prose and plays of the highest quality.
