Jan Potocki

Jan Potocki (1761-1815) was a Polish aristocrat and a great traveller. He published several accounts of his journeys to distant parts of the world. It is believed that he is the author of The Saragossa Manuscript, from which Dedalus has published Ten Days in the Life of Alphonse Van Worden. It is one of the greatest masterpieces of literary fantasy in the 19th century and has inspired the Dedalus list. Jan Potocki committed suicide in 1815.
