Egon Shiele

Egon Shiele (June 12, 1890 – October 31, 1918) was an Austrian painter, a protege of Gustav Klimt, and a major figurative painter of the early 20th century. Schiele's oeuvre is noted for the intensity and the large number of self-portraits he produced. The twisted body shapes that characterise Schiele's paintings and drawings makes the artist a notable exponent of Expressionism. Due to the highly-charged nature of his drawings and paintings and his premature death, Schiele has come to epitomise the popular image of the tortured artist.
The cover picture for Against Nature is a self-portrait of the artist.
