Leonid Andreyev

Leonid Andreyev (1871-1919) studied law at the unversities of St Petersburg and Moscow. As a student he experienced great hardship and made several attempts at suicide and had bouts of severe depression. Registered as a barrister in 1897. His first collection of short stories published in 1901 by Gorky's publishing company. He published his short novel The Red Laugh in 1905. Dedalus also published a translation of a collection of his short stories under the title of The Little Angel (and other stories).
